Hello – may we wish you all a very early but
Happy Easter!
COMMITTEE NEWS
Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday, 12th May in
the Memorial Hall, commencing at 8.00 pm. All residents whether long
established or new to Badgers Mount are welcome to attend. If anyone would
like to join us they will be made more than welcome. Either Gordon
(534279) or Tracey (534471) will be more than happy to give you further
information on how to join us. Refreshments will be provided during the
evening – come along and meet your neighbours!
Newsletter Delivery
Following our last Newsletter 8 residents (in addition to those on the
Committee) expressed an interest in having their Newsletters via email. We
have been in contact with Shoreham Parish Council about the possibility of
their Newsletter being delivered in this way but regret to inform you that
they do not wish to take up this offer.
Due to the very low uptake of residents interested in emailed newsletters
we have decided that this is not viable at the present time and will
therefore continue to deliver paper copies to all households.
Garden boundaries
Several residents have expressed concern over the erection of a fence in
the woodland area at the top of Milton Avenue. The Committee are currently
corresponding with the owner of the adjacent property for removal of this.
We hope that this matter will shortly be resolved.
Garden Rubbish
Several complaints have also been received regarding the dumping of garden
rubbish on verges and public areas around Badgers Mount. We would remind
you that this is not acceptable as it spoils the area and devalues all
properties, including your own! It is also considered to be flytipping
which can lead to substantial fines. Sevenoaks District Council offers a
garden waste collection service, or alternatively it can be taken to the
Household Waste Site at Sundridge if you are unable to dispose of this
appropriately within your own premises.
Re-naming of the Orpington Bypass
Following analysis of the consultation slips by Orpington Bypass residents
on the change of name of their road there were a wide variety of suggested
names. By the time you receive this Newsletter residents living on the
Orpington Bypass will have been further consulted on their preference of
the two suggested names that the Committee felt were most appropriate.
These being Mildmay Avenue and Hamilton Way. Mildmay Avenue was chosen
because the area was originally part of the Mildmay Estate. Hamilton Way
was selected in acknowledgement of Bill Hamilton, a resident of Badgers
Mount who was a Professor of Evolutionary Biology and considered a
successor to Charles Darwin.
SOCIAL EVENTS
Coffee Mornings
Coffee Mornings are still held on Thursdays between 10.30 am and 12 noon
and all residents are welcome to come along for a chat over a cup of
coffee. The mobile library calls into the Hall Car Park on alternate
Thursdays between 10.45 and 11.20. Their next visits are on 7th and 21st
April.
Future Events
Due to the very limited response to holding an event to celebrate the
forthcoming Royal Wedding it was decided that this would not be viable.
However, we would like to hold a summer event for all residents. Further
details on this will be in the next Newsletter. All suggestions are
welcomed!!
POLICE SURGERY
The next police surgery will probably be in June but details have not yet
been finalised. Keep a watch out for posters nearer the time. PCSO Jane
Wright will be pleased to discuss and give advice about any concerns you
have about crimes, suspicious vehicles and callers etc. at any time. Her
contact details are on the back page of the Shoreham Post.
MOD SITE
F M Conway have been granted a Lawful Development Certificate for the use
of the MOD site for storage and distribution. However this only applies to
the inner area and storage is restricted to the existing buildings only,
with no open air storage. We expect that they will appeal against this
severely restricted use of the site. We are monitoring the situation of
this site very closely. SDC have also made a Woodland Tree Preservation
Order covering the whole site.
KNOCKHOLT STATION PARKING
The yellow lines which SDC agreed to install over a year ago have just
been installed. Parking on both sides of the road continues to be a
problem. As the road is actually in Halstead Parish Council’s area, they
are keeping an active watch on the situation.
SHOREHAM PARISH COUNCIL
Elections for Shoreham Parish Council will take place on Thursday 5th May.
We have three seats on the Council, and all of our present councillors are
standing down. If you would like to be involved with the Council, why not
stand for one of the seats. To obtain information on how to apply, you can
either speak to the Clerk of the Council or Ian Bigwood at Sevenoaks
District Council, 01732 227242. Nominations must be submitted by noon on
4th April.
VILLAGE SIGN
You may recall from our June 2010 Newsletter that a replacement village
sign was being arranged by Shoreham Parish Council. Ownership and
insurance liability of the sign was transferred to the Parish Council in
2004. We are advised that the new sign has now been delivered and it will
hopefully be erected shortly.
The Committee entered into considerable discussion with the Parish Council
concerning the replacement sign. The original sign had winter and spring
pictures on its two faces but the new sign will only be using the spring
scene. In part this was because of the cost but it was also due to the
fact that the deterioration of the winter scene made it more difficult to
replicate.
